Melissa is crazy ... so let's send her to Australia!

So ... surprise surprise Melissa has decided to do something crazy and work/spend more time in Australia ... actually, I'm jealous.

Melissa, if I wasn't stuck here in no-mans land, I'd go with you!

So everyone, please read up and click on the website and most importantly VOTE!!! There is only a few days left so tell everyone to vote for her!

Here's a msg from Melissa ...

G'day mates!

Okay, so first off...this is off the wall random but VOTE FOR ME!!! I applied for the "BEST JOB IN THE WORLD" and what is that you ask?...well I would be living on Paradise Island for 6 months, writing a blog about my experiences, feeding the fish in the "great barrier reef", taking care of a home with 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, state of the art entertainment system, infinity pool over looking the island, taking part in all there is to offer around the reef and the list goes on...but LIVING ON THE OCEAN in AUSTRALIA as an ISLAND CARETAKER driving around in my little caretaker golf cart...WOW...pretty crazy wouldn't you say!!!...it's a once in a lifetime experience!!! SO VOTE FOR ME...the deadline is in 7 days!!! SO GET MOVIN' and pass this on to everyone...my bikini's are calling my name, and I think wearing the "adidas 3 stripes" on a beach would be an incredible!

PS. the video is a wee bit cheesy, I heard about the opportunity the night before, so this was "created" VERY late or REALLY early...however you wanna put it...but it's out there and who knows, you may be viewing into my travel blog as of July 1st!!!

Impossible is Nothing,
Melissa

7 Falls Hike

So I went on a wild hike on Valentine's Day with a group of friends, mostly Anatomy Lab TA's and my pharmacology professor, but none the less it was an amazing hike and a spectacular view.

Details:
I had to wake up at 6am to get ready and meet the rest of them at campus. We drove just over an hour to get down to Rosseau (capital of Dominica), met up with our guides and started our hike at about 9am. We didn't get back to the van until 3pm that day. And we hiked pretty much the entire time. They estimated it to be about 4 miles. But it had been raining for a while so most of the hike was sliding down a mud slide on the side of a mountain. And the only rule of the trip was "Do not fall, because you will die." I wasn't the happiest to hear that, but once we started the hike I knew what they were talking about. We had to walk on this little mud ledge along the mountains and when you fell, you fell for a while and would try to grab onto anything possible because it was above rocks, rivers and trees that I just didnt want to hit.

I did great for the first handful of hours, but due to lack of cartilage and torn ligaments in my knees the last hour was aweful because everytime I took a huge step my knee would collaspe beneath me. So I have a good number of scratches on me. Especially on the razor grass, yah it's called razor grass cause as soon as you touch it you hake your hand apart. But the hike was wild, we got to walk through the rivers (which is really hard when the water hits you and tries to take you under), but the rock climbing bits and 90 degree hikes up a mud slide is interesting.

Summary:
6 hour hike
7 water falls
2 busted knees
1 amazing trip!

I'll post some pictures, but to tell you the truth they do not do the hike justice.
